Today was the last day and parents and siblings were welcome to join in. We had a day packed full of fun activities.
First we had a lucky dip with the beach words we have learnt this week. Then we had a treasure hunt. 50 beach related pictures were pasted all over the Kidergarten. It was close but the Dolphin Team won.
Next we finished the Beach Displays, which can be seen below.

Dolphin Team with their display.

Turtle Team with their display.

Then we had a brief play in the water.

And then it was the much anticipated boat race. The children were very keen to try their boats out and some of the boats worked better than others. Disappointingly, Lee-sensei's boat wasn't very good!

After the race we read a picture book and then had lunch together. After lunch the children were all presented with "Certificates of Completion".

Summer School will be back next year! Why don't you join us?

Today we made boats from PET bottles with sails made out of plastic bags. The mast was a coat hanger held in place by a small lump of plasticine.
The children drew some interesting designs on their sails with flags of the United States, China, Japan and even the Skull and Cross Bones (the Pirates flag) making an appearance! Of course my boat had a Union Jack, the flag of the United Kingdom.
It was quite a difficult task but the children did very well and are looking forward to racing thier boats tomorrow!

We also had P.E where played lots of ball games and "What's the time Mr Wolf?". After P.E, the children added drawings to the beach display which will on the wall in the gym tomorrow.

I can't believe it's the last day tomorrow.

Well, today we started off with a game of pass the pumpkin. When the music stopped the child holding the pumpkin had to answer a question in English (What colour do you like? etc...)
Then we read the story "The Sandcastle Contest" about a boy who makes a house out of sand that so realistic that the competition judges think it's a real house!
Then we decided what we would make out of sand and went out to the sandpit to make them. Unfortunately, a large bee also took interest in our sandcraft so we had to stop.

The above photo is of a turtle.

Next, we had "playing in the water" in the Kindergarten pool. Again it was lot's of fun with all kinds of races and games.

Tomorrow we are making boats!

Today we added summer designs to plain canvas bags (which the children took home) and played in the pool.

The children first reviewed some summer vocabulary and were then shown a design and some pictures. They practised drawing the pictures and then copied the design onto their bags. On the other side they were encouraged to think of their own design and pictures. Beetles, bugs, rainbows, setting suns and even an air-conditioner featured! The children were very proud of their bags!

After this we played in the kindergarten pool. We had crocodile races, treasure hunts, walking races and other games. There was a lot of splashing!

We had our first day of Summer School today. We had morning attendance, sang the "good morning" song and played hangman. Then we had games in the gym. Among others, we played follow the leader, "Bamboo, Tree, Bush, Grass" and "What's the time (Mr Wolf)?".
We then divided our class into two teams, Dolphins and Turtles. For the last hour we read a book about the beach and talked about what we find there. Then we cut out seaweed, sea shells, ice cream cones and a starfish and stuck them onto two large pieces of paper. We will add waves, boats and ice cream as the week progresses and then display our masterpieces in the gym later in the week.

This year we are holding our first Summer School! There will be two classes (one for Saturday School children and one for kindergarten senior-age children). The class size will be limited to around 10.

It will run from Monday 4th August to Friday 8th August. It will be a morning school, activities running from 9.30am-11.45am. Children are welcome from 9.00am for "Free Play". Of course, the day will be given in English.

The theme for the week is "At the beach". We will be singing songs, playing games, splashing around in the water, making displays, parasols, boats and having a sandcastle competition! On the last day (Friday 8th) parents and siblings our welcome. We will have a boat race and a summer treasure hunt. Then we will all have lunch together.

The Summer School is open to seniors (Bamboo, Fuji and Kiku class children and other 5-6 year olds from outside the kindergarten) and children from our Saturday School.

The fee for the week is ¥8,000.

It will be fun, come and join us

This week Lily (along with Bara and Momo) went to the zoo. It was a very hot day and the children enjoyed saying "hello" and "good morning" to the various animals! You can hear them on the link below.

It was a great day!

Well, all the children got their books this week. I hope you were happy with your books. My order for the kindergarten was great and I've already read some of the books with the children in Pumpkin class.
Apologies for those of you who ordered items on the back pages of the catalogues. They are only available to people with U.S addresses.
For those of you who didn't receive the books you ordered, I have already re-ordered them and they should be here next week.
I will distribute flyers again in September.
